His French club Toulon said on Tuesday that Springbok Rugby World Cup winner Eben Etzebeth will be absent for "a few weeks" after an operation on a finger injury during practice last week.
29-year-old Etzebeth last played in a heavy Top 14 defeat
away to Lyon on March 27.
Since then, his club has not taken part in the competition.
Their last 16 games of their European Champions Cup away game against Leinster
on April 2 were canceled due to Toulon's Covid-19 case.
"Eben Etzebeth has undergone surgery in recent
days," said the three-time European champion.
The cub said the other lock, Matthias Halagahu, also faced
the curse of tingling shoulders.
They added: "The two Toulon will be absent from the
second row for weeks."
The ongoing coronavirus problems in Toulon’s forced them to postpone Saturday's match in Montpellier.
They were in the top 14 in the final of the playoffs, second
only to Lyon. There are six games in the regular season.
RMC Sport reported that the third Toulon player, Brian
Alainu'uese, the Samoa international under 20, was also injured, adding that
the club is working hard to attract more players.
Eben Etzebeth's springbok will host the British and Irish
Lions, with the first test taking place on July 3rd.
