The 27-year-old has become the last All Black player to renew his contract in 2023 or later as more and more cap international players begin to pay attention to the trend of the French World Cup two years later.

Frizell’s renewed commitment to NZR is also a huge win for the Highlanders, signing a Tongan-born loose striker in 2018 and reaping generous returns.

Since then, this 13-game international game has been excellent for the Dunedin team, having played 44 times for the Southerners.

The former Tongan U20 representative took the lead in his first Super Rugby campaign, executing a hat-trick against the Blues team in a match that effectively sealed his position as a draw in the All Blacks.

Frizell made his debut against France in Dunedin in June 2018 and played for the All Blacks at the 2019 World Cup in Japan as an injury replacement for Luke Jacobson.

Last year, he started competing in four of the six New Zealand trials to highlight his national cock in the blind flanker.

Given his excellent Super Rugby Aotearoa campaign so far this season, the Tasman representative will likely start winning awards with the All Blacks later this year.

Highlanders coach Tony Brown said, "Shannon is our best since his first game with the club."

“His work efficiency and physical commitment to offense and defense is world-class, and his consistent performance this year has made him the best player in the United States.

Frizell added: "I have a great time here. I love Dunedin and the culture of the team. It seems to have brought many benefits. I hope the Highlanders are doing well, then I will. Be very happy. "

Frizell became the latest Highlander to be franchised recently as Aaron Smith, Folau Fakatava and Pari Pari Parkinson, and others have extended their residences in Dunedin beyond this year.
