This fly-half has always been an excellent servant to the national team, winning 96 blocks and helping them win three titles from six Nations, but injuries and lack of physique have hindered him recently.
With the defeat of the popular event France on February 14,
hopes for the Irish Champions League ended in just two games.
Johnny Sexton admitted that in the 15-13 match against Les
Bleus, some of the country's performance fell short of international standards.
“The coaches came in
and they did a great job, which is very different from before, but I think we
will do better for this process.
Sexton was a series of influential absentees from France who
visited Dublin.
From the start of the match, Caelan Doris and Jacob Stockdale
were absent from the match. Deputy Captain James Ryan and Conal Mer in the
semifinals, Conor Murray also missed the game due to injury, and Peter O'Mahony
was suspended after receiving a red card at the Principality Stadium.
Sexton said of his physical condition before traveling to Rome, “I am very happy. I have a choice.
"I'm sorry to miss the French game. It's a game I really
want to play, but I haven't been there yet and I haven't reached the standard
of the replay agreement, so I have to wait a little longer.
Sexton also revealed that he is about to agree to extend his
contract to continue playing for Leinster.
“I've always been in
the same position. I absolutely love what I'm doing, I'm much honored to do it,
and I still love it, and I will always stick with it - never changed,” he said.
“Right now I'm still inspired. I hope my colleagues and trainers
see my inspiration to actively train every day and move on.
