The scrum-half, which represented hurricanes between 2012 and 2020, is currently in a temporary contract with Japanese Top League co-star NTT DoCoMo Red Hurricanes.
He will end his contract with New Zealand Rugby at the end of
the year. With his Sabbath season coming to an end at the end of the Japanese
club season in May, it means the 29-year-old is expected to return to play for
the All Blacks later this year.
But Perenara could lose the code of 15 men to continue her
career by wearing NRL Sydney Roosters, who reportedly contacted her lawyer
Warren Alcock.
Roosters are reportedly willing to use Perenara as a hooker
as they are currently in trouble in the area.
Earlier this week, All Blacks legend Sir John Kirwan said New
Zealand Rugby should not re-sign Perenara, a 69-year-old Test veteran when he
returns from Japan.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Chief Avan Lee told NZME he had
contacted Perenara last week in an attempt to re-sign her.
He said, "I've played Zoom with him and his manager for a long time and talked about the hurricane and All Blacks." “We were not talking about the Rugby League, we were just talking about the hurricane, and we are clearly determined to bring it home. He said he was determined to become a hurricane and go All Black again.
“You can choose if there's any truth to the Roosters rumors,
then it's clear you can't just have a conversation, so we only control the
conversation with TJ, and we know how much you love the hurricane.
"If he returns to
his hometown and plays somewhere, he will participate in the All Blacks and
Rugby World Cup 2023."
Lee admitted he was not surprised to see the report linking
Perenara to the rugby league and said they should do everything possible to
give him a good chance to return to New Zealand Rugby.
“You will never have
confidence in these conversations because you don't know what drives anyone
right now, but I have faith - I know what we need to do to get TJ home, but it
might not be surprising to be interested Others Sports or at least Rugby
League.
