As we get closer to the April draft, we’ll look at individual concept prospects and how they might work with the Jaguars. Instead of looking at any negatives, we’ll see what the players do well if they can match what Jaguars need in a certain role or position.

In this release, we look back at North Carolina running back Michael Carter, one of the top three running backs in the 2021 draft. Is he fit for the Jaguars’ offensive plan if they take him as a draft pick?

Carter became a three-star recruit after graduating from high school, breaking the Florida high school football record, and eventually committing to UNC at schools in Florida, Tennessee, and Louisville. Carter also immediately entered the UNC role, playing in 11 games and starting two games as a true freshman in 2017.

Carter rushed for 559 yards (5.8 yards per carrying) and eight touchdowns in his sophomore year, but his second-year receptions increased, with 732 touchdowns and 109 touchdowns. His total offensive touchdowns, however, dropped from nine to three.

As a junior, Carter had a breakthrough year, rushing for 177 passes for 1,003 yards (5.7 yards per carrying) and three touchdowns while catching 21 passes for 154 yards (7.3 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. As a result, he won three all-ACC awards.

Carter’s output exploded after 11 games, with three All-American and first-team all-ACC running backs leading UNC rushing for 1,245 yards (9.0 yards per carrying) and nine touchdowns, as well as 25 catches for 267 yards (10.7 yards per catch) and two scores.
