Since receiving planning permission in 2017, the 154 acre garden in Salford, Greater Manchester, is the largest hands-on garden project in Europe. It is also the first RHS garden in the built-up area. Tickets for the highly anticipated event will go on sale on April 19, 2021.
The garden uses cutting-edge designs from the gold medalist
of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and offers inspiration and expertise in
world-class gardening. Before the opening, more than a quarter of the plants
had gone into the ground, which greatly benefited the biodiversity of the area.
Royal Horticultural Society Director
General Sue Biggs told: “The Royal
Horticultural Society Garden Bridgewater Hotel is the
result of years of hard work by a dream team of contractors, designers,
gardeners, and many others. And donors (including Salford City Council and Peel
Group), we are delighted to finally celebrate this extraordinary achievement on
May 18. "
This unique project
comes about through a massive collaborative approach, involving 700 local
volunteers engaged in a variety of work, from bricklaying and bricklaying to
running tours.
RHS is investing £ 35 million in the construction of the garden. The charity predicts it will generate around £ 13.2m in revenue for the local economy and 100 on-site jobs by 2030 - nearly 50% of workers live within 5 miles of the garden.

to the city, its communities, Salford City Council invested £ 19 million in the
