The One Show and RHS launch My Chelsea Garden competition to find UK’s best gardener
Could your lockdown garden (or balcony or windowsill) be an
award contender?
With the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2021 delayed until September,
gardeners will have to look elsewhere for their spring horticultural fix.
BBC One’s The One Show and The Royal Horticultural Society are joining forces to find the UK’s best amateur gardeners for the second year running in their My Chelsea Garden competition.
There are four categories open to amateur gardeners: front
garden, back garden, alternative garden (including houseplants,
windowsills, balconies); and community garden (a piece of land gardened
collectively by a group of people from more than one household.
Contestants should enter a current picture of their growing
efforts along with an explanation of how gardening has helped them
through the past year to be in with a chance of winning.
A ‘best in show’ winner will also be selected by the panel of judges who include Monty Don, One Show presenter Alex Jones, author and small gardens expert Isabelle Palmer, RHS head of shows judging James Alexander-Sinclair and head of the One Show Rob Unsworth.
One winner from each category will receive four public day
tickets for the delayed RHS Chelsea Flower Show and a special RHS award
commending their garden.
“It’s joyous seeing the efforts people have gone to when
creating some really very special gardens.
“With RHS Chelsea Flower Show being postponed until
September, we love that we can celebrate and share people’s best efforts to
green up their outside and inside spaces in May when the world famous gardening
event usually takes place,” said James Alexander-Sinclair.
