NFL London 2021: Former NFL star returns to Amarillo to coach his Alma mater

 Palo Duro Dons has another familiar face. In the mid-2000s, Evander "Ziggy" Hood played for Dons in Amarillo when he was in high school, then went to Missouri as a three-star player. After that, he stayed in the NFL for about ten years, then retired and entered the coaching game.

His next coaching stay? As Dons' Eric Mims announced on Twitter when he returned to his old stadium, he said: "Palo Duro welcomes our new defensive coach! Coach Evander "Ziggy" Hood! We are honored and humbled to have Coach Hood join us. Our staff can't wait for its influence and leadership to affect the Northern District!"

Next year, when Lubbock High Schools, Coronado, and Monterey all share an area with the team, Dons will take a lot of action against Lubbock School. After the 1-7 season ended, Dons was selected as the bottom of the ward in 2021.

After spending several seasons in the NFL, Hood hopes to improve the defensive line, especially with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his 10-year career, he also played for the Washington Football Team, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins. Hood's best season came in 2012 when he started all 16 games for the Steelers and completed 3 sacks and 42 tackles on his inner defense line.

Dons will rely on Hood's experience and knowledge throughout the NFL, not only on the field but off the field, to show them the mentality it takes to take the sport's biggest phase.
