Davies represents Alan Wyn Jones, who will captain the British and Irish Lions in South Africa, as the Guinness Six Nations champion prepares to host Canada and Argentina in Cardiff.
Ospreys Gareth Thomas, Dragons pair Ben Carter and Taine
Basham, Cardiff Blues center Ben Thomas and Scarlets winger Tom Rogers all hope
their international matches can run smoothly as Pivac focuses on the future as
so many veteran players are unable to participate.
There will be 10 Welsh players joining the Lions this summer
and Pivac took the opportunity to build the depth of the squad.
Dragons Scrum-half Rhodri Williams has won his first
international call-up in seven years, while his number 9 teammate Rhys Webb and
center Owen Watkin was unexpectedly left out.
Flanker Josh Turnbull also returns, possibly winning the first cap in three years, while veteran fullback Leigh Halfpenny maybe his
100th time appeared in the test.
Wales will host Canada on July 3, then Argentina on the
following two Saturdays, when 10,000 fans will be ready to return to the
Principality Stadium.
“The three home tests we will undergo this summer, we are really looking forward to working with this team,” said Pivac.
"I am very happy that we can choose five unlimited
players in the team. This is an opportunity, just like last year's fall event,
to integrate these players into the environment and expose them to test
preparations. In some cases, it is ok to join the test game rugby.
"This summer is not just about unlimited players, but
also the international players who are gaining more experience. This is their
chance to get more starters and appearances and take on leadership roles, so
this is going to be an important period for us."
"We will be organizing a training camp in North Wales
and before we return to Cardiff for our three games, so we had a great time
together.
“While the success of the Six Nations team is still fresh in
the minds of many people, it is important that we continue to build depth and
our game as we move forward with the 2023 RWC.
